TIPS FOR NEW BLOGGERS
Find your niche. Wether it’s fitness, fashion, lifestyle, travel, recipes, hotspots, etc.
Be unique. In other words, be yourself. There are millions of bloggers out there, the only way you’re going to stand out is by being yourself.
Make it clear to yourself why you’re blogging. If you’re clear about why you’re blogging, it’ll reflect in your niche and to your followers. Also, do you want to make money of your blog? Make it a career? These are all things you have to think about.
Just start. I took 3 years to start blogging and honestly, I wish I would’ve just started. I wanted everything to be perfect as soon as I started and that’s not realistic. When you start, you’ll just keep getting better and better and learning from your mistakes.
Don’t promote everything that is given to you for free. You have a voice now to influence others. Brands send me their products and when I use them, I’ll tell them straight up, “I won’t promote this on my page because it didn’t work for me, sorry”. You have to keep a trusting relationship between you and your followers.
Work on your bio. Make it clear on your bio what it is that you do. When someone clicks on your instagram page and reads your bio, they should have a clear idea of what it is that they are about to see in your pictures. Be as clear as you can.
Work on your account picture. Theirs some people that have horrible pictures as their account picture and that stops so many people from even clicking on your account. Make sure it’s a clear picture of yourself. Also, if you have Pinterest, Youtube, Facebook page, Twitter, have the same account picture and same name on all those accounts so it’s easier for your followers to find you.
Blog Platform. Wordpress and Squarespace are both very good platforms to start with. I used Wordpress, Wix, and another one which I always seem to forget. Squarespace is by far my favorite one.
Research. I do an insane amount of research before doing anything in life. I exhaust all my options until I feel confident in my decision. Yes, it’s very annoying. What I’m saying is; go to google and type all the questions you have about blogging. I did this and to my surprise, theirs so many answers out there that actually help and answer all my questions.
Stay informed. Now you actually have to stay informed about Instagram’s algorithms and if/when it changes. I read articles from later.com to keep me informed.
Media Kit. If you’re serious about being a blogger and promoting brands, you’re going to need one. Think of it as a proposal. It has all your statistics on how well you do on all your platforms: how many subscribers you have, your engagement rate, number of followers, collaborations you’ve done and so on.
Consistent. Try to post at least 3-4 posts a week. Blogs that are active and post frequent do better than those that don’t.
Social media platforms. I hated the idea of opening up an account on every social media platform. I only like and was familiar with Instagram. But, If you want to attract more people to your blog, give them options. You may love Instagram but someone else may always use Facebook. Therefore, create a Facebook page. I have a Twitter, Facebook page, and Pinterest (which I have come to love). You can use these platforms to update your followers when you posted a new blog post.
Email. Open up a blogger email. It’s easier to manage and it looks more professional when placed on your bio, in my opinion.
